Known Risk exists because a teacher, coach, or doctor can lose their professional designation for predatory conduct — and still pass a background check clean, because they were never criminally charged. We built the registry that closes that gap.
Known Risk is built and maintained by a small, independent team based in Ontario. We operate deliberately without a public founder identity — the same way a whistleblower hotline or an investigative tip line stays anonymous, so that the focus remains on the records, not on us.
Every record in Known Risk is sourced from a public regulatory decision, a court document, an official sanctions list, or a named media report. We do not make original allegations. We aggregate, cross-reference, and make searchable what regulators, courts, and sport governing bodies have already found — and connect it across provinces and professions in a way no single public register currently does.
We built this because the gap is structural: a professional can lose their licence for sexual misconduct and never appear on a criminal record check, because a vulnerable sector check searches CPIC — and CPIC does not contain regulatory findings. Known Risk is the registry that connects the two.
